Announcements of departure from Elon Musk's platform are increasing as Donald Trump's return to the White House approaches.

More than 80 associations, including the Human Rights League, Terre d'Asile and Emmaüs France, announced in a column published by The World Wednesday January 15 their intention to leave the social network X, owned by American billionaire Elon Musk.

“By leaving X, we are well aware of depriving ourselves of a communication channel to promote our actions, our struggles, to challenge, to raise awareness”write these 87 associations, such as Cimade, France nature environment, Greenpeace France or even APF France handicap.

“But this tool, which could be understood as a new space for freedom of expression in its beginnings, has become a serious danger for it.”

X's departure announcements on January 20, the date of the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump who appointed Elon Musk to head a ministry “governmental efficiency”have been multiplying for several weeks. In France, this is the case of the CFDT, the Assistance publique-hôpitaux de – which brings together 38 Parisian hospitals –, the newspaper West Francethe Mediapart site or even the Memorial.

In Europe, more than sixty German and Austrian universities announced their withdrawal on January 10, expressing concern about the anti-democratic excesses of this platform. The organizations which signed the forum, which invite “all those who are interested in their fights” has “leave X as massively as possible”specify that they will continue to communicate via other social networks, in particular Bluesky and Mastodon.
