The Collective of Civil Society Organizations for Elections (COSCE) initiated the creation of a framework for the Observatory of Democratic and Political Governance. This approach was launched during a workshop organized on Tuesday in Dakar, an event which the APS attended.

Civil society, through COSCE, underlined the importance of this observatory which will serve as a strategic lever to promote transparency and inclusion in the political process in Senegal. It is envisaged that this body will play a monitoring role on essential governance indicators, particularly in a delicate socio-economic environment.

In his speech at the opening, Moundiaye Cissé, coordinator of COSCE, highlighted the need for Senegal to have national tools to measure good governance. This initiative shows the country’s desire to take charge of its governance issues.

Participants in this workshop include representatives from the Autonomous National Electoral Commission (CENA), the National Audiovisual Regulatory Council (CNRA), as well as the British Embassy in Senegal, highlighting international interest for this approach. The APS reported that this project could mark a significant turning point in the way governance is assessed and improved in the country.
