The tree is “definitely dead”, saddens a tree expert commissioned by the City of (Aude). Located in a busy public space, in the Jardin du Calvaire, this Atlas Cedar became dangerous for visitors. This observation follows an in-depth study carried out by the City on the state of the plants and structures of the Jardin du Calvaire.

The phytosanitary state of the cedar does not allow its conservation. The cedar is definitely dead.

A “necessary” slaughter

According to the expert, the felling of this tree is “necessary to avoid any incident, because certain branches are already sufficiently degraded to risk falling”.

Once this observation was established, it was decided that the cedar could not be kept in a busy public space. The work will be carried out from the beginning of 2025 by the company Eco.Va.Na, holder of the tree maintenance contract for the City of Carcassonne.

A specific procedure

This operation will not be simple due to the imposing dimensions of the tree. “Dismantling will require a specific procedure,” specifies the City. The branches will first be cut into sections, the trunk will be sawn into 3 or 4 piecesthe stump will then be planed. »

As part of the tree charter, every felled tree has been subject to a diagnosis by the competent services. This is only done if no solution can be offered.
