2022 will only have been a brief defeat for the Louises. At the top of the most given first names for Parisian newborns continuously since 2007, the first name had fallen to second place in 2022. Before regaining first place from the first name Alma the following year… to retain the throne in 2024. Parisian parents therefore made essentially the same choices as the previous year.
For girls, we find the same top 2 as in 2023, with Louise and Alma in the first two ranks of the most given first names in Paris with respectively 198 and 195 babies named thus. But one first name finds itself ejected from the podium: third in 2023 with 138 babies named like this, Alice only finds herself in 10th place with 114 births. She is replaced by Emma, who climbs from eighth to third place.
In the rest of the top 10, the first names remain approximately the same as in 2023. The Annas are a little less numerous, going from 4th to 9th place, while the first name Sofia enters in eighth position.
Among boys, Gabriel remains at the top of the most given first names, as he has since 2007. And by a wide margin! In Paris in 2024, it was given to 305 newborns, far ahead of the 242 Adam who were born in the capital. On the third step, we find Raphaël to form the same podium as in 2023.
In the rest of the top 10, Gaspard and Joseph give way to Léo and… Léon. Compared to 2023, 35 additional babies were named this way in 2024. What is there to see as a Merchant effect?
