She is expected to make the announcement in the coming days.

Chrystia Freeland created quite a commotion within the party by announcing her resignation just before the economic update from Justin Trudeau’s government on December 16.

In the letter sent to the Prime Minister which she shared on her social networks, she admitted to finding herself “disagreed on the best path forward for Canada”.

She also denounced the use of “costly political tricks”.

Ms. Freeland’s resignation from Justin Trudeau’s cabinet plunged the Liberal Party into crisis, which ended with the resignation of its leader, Justin Trudeau, on January 6.

Already a support

At the end of the afternoon, the Liberal MP for Brossard-Saint-Lambert, Alexandra Mendès, had already declared in a press release that she supports Chrystia Freeland.

“I consider its integrity of essential importance when we appear before voters who are very disillusioned by politicians who make it an “option”,” wrote the Quebec MP.

The latter added that she believes that Ms. Freeland “will not only make a very good leader of the PLC, but that she will be the best prime minister for Canada in the years to come.”
