Disappearance in Basse-Côte-Nord: intensive searches near Saint-Augustin

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) is conducting intensive searches to find a 75-year-old man who has been missing since Saturday in the Saint-Augustin sector, on the Lower North Shore.

The septuagenarian had gone to explore a wooded area that could be used for firewood. The man left in an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and never returned.

It was the septuagenarian’s relatives who contacted the authorities in the evening on Saturday when they realized that he was slow to return. The research then quickly began.

“Traces of ATVs were observed in the northeast of the municipality, heading towards the bay of the Gulf of St. Lawrence,” explains SQ spokesperson Fournier.

A large area was combed on Sunday in the hope of finding the missing man, without success. A command post was also deployed on Principale Street in Saint-Augustin.

SQ divers were finally deployed Monday morning in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
