Young and old are invited to participate in a new edition of bird counting in French gardens, this weekend of January 25 and 26, 2025, to contribute to the scientific monitoring of populations of the most common species.

If you are lucky enough, in or Ile-de-, to have access to a small green space, theGarden Bird Observatory counting on you! This French participatory science system invites you to help with bird census that you observe at home, the January 25 and 26, 2025. To do this, there is no need to know the different species by heart, just use the descriptive sheets provided by the Observatory, then send your comments on their online platform.

You can thus contribute to the scientific monitoring populations of the most common species, with this big count, organized twice a year, in January and May. The opportunity to compare their behavior and their numbers during two different periods, wintering and reproduction. Enough to spend a pleasant moment in nature, alone or with others, in your garden, on your balcony or in a public park.

After choosing your observation location, identify the birds you see, note the number of individuals seen at the same time for each species and send it all to the websiteoiseaudesjardins.fr. Nothing could be simpler! In January 2024, more than 547,000 birds were counted thanks to the mobilization of 17,033 observers. This year, you could notably come across house sparrows, blue and great tits, robins, blackbirds and also stone-crushing Grosbeaks!
