The tempting smell of pancakes, ready to be shared, hung in the air, adding a touch of warmth to this encounter. The atmosphere, simple but warm, was perfect for the words of the mayor, Daniel Berrier: he first wanted to recall the positive dynamics of the town. He mentioned the demographic growth of Vieux-Pont: from 199 inhabitants in 2021, the village would have increased to 210 according to him. An encouraging sign: “Young and old alike are arriving in our town, it’s a real pleasure to see the population renew itself. »
Daniel Berrier took the time to look back on the highlights of 2024: « The 80e anniversary of the liberation of the village was a significant ceremony which brought together many residents. The great success of the feast of Saint Anne which is always appreciated; and the Christmas tree, where the number of children participating continues to increase. Among the things accomplished, let's also talk about the repair of several municipal roads and paths. »

Projects for 2025
The councilor also mentioned projects: “ The development of the town center which will be intended to improve the quality of life of residents while strengthening safety on the D48. And non-collective sanitation, for which I hope to see the subsidy rules for this crucial work evolve and which are a real source of inequalities for people living in small villages like ours. »
Concerns about subsidies for road renovations
Thierry Clérembaux, departmental advisor, spoke, expressing his concerns regarding budgetary constraints that the Department faces : « The national budget is difficult and therefore inevitably the departmental budget too. He must find 20 millions of euros in savings and everyone agrees that it is necessary but everyone blames the other for doing it. » He specified that this situation will fatally impact the maintenance of local roads and put all rural mayors in difficulty.
