Météo France placed several departments, including Haut-Rhin, on “severe cold” alert this Monday, January 13. Given these weather conditions, Thierry Queffélec, prefect of Haut-Rhin, announced in a press release that he had decided to trigger level 1 of the “severe cold” plan from that same day.
Specific measures are implemented by state services and the associative structures concerned “depending on the foreseeable or proven impact of the cold wave”, specifies the press release.
In addition to the 135 accommodation places already mobilized as part of the winter emergency plan, the prefecture is implementing “an intensification of the intervention of marauders in Colmar and Mulhouse, provided by the French Red Cross and the Order of Malta; a possibility, for people in vulnerable situations, if necessary, of additional care in emergency accommodation structures and in hotels and extended opening hours for day reception centers.”
Report people in distress to 115
The Prefect recalls how important it is that any person in distress in a public space is reported to 115, a free emergency call service.
A call for vigilance is also launched to emergency services circulating in public spaces: police and gendarmerie (17), firefighters (17) and Samu (15).
