One of the biggest sled dog events in Europe restarted this weekend in Haute-Savoie.
The Great Odyssey takes place every year between Savoie, Haute-Savoie and Isère.
Start of the race in Megève
The 21st edition of the great Odyssey officially opened this weekend with a prologue and a first stage in Megève. Two French women are in the lead at the end of these first races: Elsa Borgey and Cindy Duport.
Chablais on the program at the start of the week
Monday and Tuesday, the departure and arrival will be at Chapelle d'Abondance in Haute-Savoie before heading to Savoie on Wednesday (La Toussuire).
For this 20th anniversary, more than 65 international muschers with their 600 dogs are traveling nearly 400 km in the snow-covered mountains. This year promises to be special since no former winner is present on the starting line.
Lots of entertainment
The 21st edition of the Grande Odyssey runs until January 23. At the same time, there are trophies for young muschers, but also special operations such as the Odyssey of Hopes, the Odyssey for All and the Odyssey of Children, with a race which takes place this Monday at the Abondance Chapel. The entire program with the crossing points can be found directly here!
