Michel Onfray censored on his own land. A high school in Caen abandoned the organization of a conference that the philosopher was to hold voluntarily, in the face of the outcry within the establishment. “We are encountering strong opposition from a small collective of high school teachers, sparked by (the) arrival (of Michel Onfray). We did not expect such reactions and we are forced to cancel next Friday’s meeting.”regret two teachers from the François Rabelais hotel and catering trades high school, in an email to which the JDD had access on January 12.
The two members of the establishment deplore the mobilization of some of their colleagues against the organization of this conference, and apologize to the essayist and founder of the Popular University of Caen.

The denunciation of obstacles to freedom of expression constitutes, precisely, one of the subjects favored by Michel Onfray. Last September in particular, the philosopher highlighted in the pages of JDNews the quasi-ideological uniformity of the media in France, pointing out the “false freedom of (the) subsidized press, (which) indoctrinates with the money of the taxpayer who is most of the time insulted when he votes wrong”. On the CNews set, the same month, Michel Onfray criticized the “left-wing fascist” to multiply the anathemas against the media and personalities perceived as right-wing.

The philosopher himself bore the brunt, before the episode at the Caen hotel high school, of attacks against the diversity of opinions: among other examples, ultra-left activists interrupted a conference by Michel Onfray last May as part of the Spring of Freedom of Expression in Perpignan, with the cry of: “Rachos in the dungeons! ». A few years earlier – in 2018 – and on another scale, the philosopher had accused the public audiovisual service of censorship against him. At issue: the deprogramming of an interview with Michel Onfray by France 5 after the publication of a biting open letter addressed to President Macron, as well as the decision of France Culture to no longer broadcast the courses he gave at the University popular of Caen. “Concretely, they cut me off. In a democracy, I don’t find that these are methods”he then denounced.
