Japan, defending champion, is once again the winning country of the Pastry World Cup 2025. During a very technical competition which was held as part of the SIRHA in Lyon, the Japanese won the final with 400 points ahead of the French on the evening of Saturday January 25.
-On the second step of the podium, the French team does not hide its disappointment. The Blues nevertheless left confident as the most successful nation with eight coronations and also hoped to capitalize on French pastry excellence and demanding preparation. Lhe competition and its nine hours of events proved to be close, but Japan shone with its technique. Malaysia created a surprise by reaching the 3rd step of the podium.
The French team was made up of Haruka Atsuji, Mickaël Guyader, and Jérémy Massing. The latter had participated in the last edition of the World Cup and this time hoped to win gold. “He has this experience which is a real asset for the team and he is a competitor at heart” explained Franck Michel, the French coach for this 2025 edition, during the “chocolate” event in which the French shone.
France, at the origin of the competition in 1989, easily trusted the firsts places during the first editions. But now, the championship has gained in technicality. The first step of the podium represents a real challenge.
“When Gabriel Paillasson founded the World Cup, he succeeded in his bet. The idea of a competition like this is to highlight the work of these French talents, but at the same time, we want to help other countries emerge and evolve. It is not written that France must win” underlines Etienne Leroy, member of the organizing committee and 2017 world champion. The next edition of the event will be held in two years, still in Lyon.
