Morocco maintains its place as the leading supplier of fruits and vegetables to Spain. According to data compiled by Fepex (Spanish Federation of Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Associations), the value of Spanish imports of fresh fruit and vegetables from third countries amounted to 2.69 billion euros from January to October 2024 , or 66% of total foreign purchases during this period, and imports from the EU amounted to 1.39 billion euros, or 34% of the total. Imports from third countries increased by 12% and imports from the EU by 13%.
Morocco still stands out in this group of supplier countries. The Kingdom sold 801 million euros in fruit and vegetables to its neighbor until October 2024, representing growth of 13% compared to the same period last year. The Kingdom is well ahead of Peru, which exported 501 million euros in value (+22%) and France (426 million euros, +22%).
Portugal is the fourth supplier to the national fruit and vegetable market, with 350 million euros and 19% year-on-year growth, and the Netherlands is the fifth, the only major supplier of fruit and vegetables to reduce its sales in the Spanish market, by 3%, falling to 205 million euros, according to the latest data updated to October 2024 by the customs department.
The value of total fruit and vegetable imports into Spain through October stood at €4.08 billion, up 12%. The volume stood at 3.5 million tonnes, up 7%. Fruits and vegetables from third countries amounted to 1.8 million tonnes and those from the EU to 1.7 million tonnes.
