The president of the National Human Rights Council of Morocco, Amina Bouayach, received the Mediterranean 2025 Foundation Prize on Friday in Naples, Italy, and was made “Ambassador of the United States of the World Foundation” for “his rich and undeniable contribution to the defense of human rights”.
Speaking at the opening of this ceremony, the president of the Foundation, Michael Capasso praised the considerable contribution of Amina Bouayach in the field of human rights on a national and international scale, emphasizing that this award is a mark of recognition for his dedication and dynamism.
This prize, in the form of a trophy created by the famous Italian sculptor Mario Molinari, symbolizes dialogue and cooperation between peoples, added Capasso, noting that it is not surprising that Bouayach “creates unanimous support around “she, in the structures of civil society where she enjoys constantly renewed credibility.”
For his part, the Moroccan Ambassador to the Holy See and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, Rajae Naji Mekkaoui praised the commitment of “a tireless activist involved in the defense of human rights”.
The diplomat underlined that this distinction, “well deserved”, is a clear illustration of the constant commitment and progress of the Kingdom in the promotion of human rights and the situation of Moroccan women under the leadership of His Majesty. For his part, the president of the Council of Ambassadors of the Foundation and president of the Alliance of Civilizations Chair at the Euromed University of Fez, Abdelhak Azzouzi, indicated that the appointment of Amina Bouayach by HM King Mohammed VI to the position as president of the CNDH, has had a long career punctuated by several responsibilities, notably vice-president of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), vice-president and secretary general of the International Federation of Human Rights League (FIDH), and member of the World Committee against the Death Penalty.
Speaking, Amina Bouayach stressed that this prestigious Mediterranean prize, which represents “great pride” and “an immense honor” for her as a woman and activist, is above all a tribute to Morocco for its resolute commitment to universal values of dignity, justice and equality, under the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI.
She noted, on this occasion, that the Kingdom has asserted itself as a determined actor, playing the role of bridge between continents, cultures and religions, while promoting an open and tolerant vision, based on plurality and ‘inclusion.

The president of the CNDH also indicated that the proposals to amend the Family Code, presented last December, are the culmination of an in-depth consultative process, describing these reforms as “ambitious” and “imprints of hope”, the objective being to strengthen the rights of women and children.
Evoking the relevance of dialogue between the two shores of the Mediterranean, Amina Bouayach insisted on the imperative of solidarity, mutual respect and cooperation in key areas such as education, culture, environment, youth participation and human rights.
She noted that the 2025 Mediterranean Prize celebrates the journey of all women and all actors who, often in difficult conditions, work with courage and self-sacrifice for dignity and justice.
The ceremony, which took place in the presence of the Consul General of Morocco in Naples, M’Hammed Khalil, and an audience of personalities from the Moroccan, Italian and international political, diplomatic, cultural and media world, at the initiative of the United States of the World Foundation, was marked by a visit to the Foundation museum which contains an anthology of the heritage of several countries around the world, including a part reserved for ancestral craft products from the Kingdom.
