The National Front for the Defense of the Right to Strike announced the organization of a national protest march which will be held on Sunday January 19, 2025, in Rabat, with a view to contesting the content of the organic bill establishing the conditions and modalities for exercising the right to strike. The rally is scheduled to start at Bab El-Had Square at 10:30 a.m.

In a press release, the Front expressed its dissatisfaction with the latest developments concerning organic bill No. 97-15. After the adoption of this project by the government, thanks to its majority in the House of Representatives, “ without taking into account the crucial amendments proposed by the opposition“, the climate of discontent intensified. In this sense, the Front denounced a logic of restriction and regulation inherent in the content of this project, considered as a deviation likely to hinder the fundamental right to strike.

The same source specifies that the project has already been submitted to the House of Advisors in a clear attempt to accelerate its adoption. However, this approach seems to be done in disregard of a real dialogue with the parties concerned and without taking into account the societal dimension of this legislation, which should guarantee the right to strike in accordance with the provisions of the constitution and the relevant international conventions, she added.

In addition, the Front also recalled the importance of positive progress in its collective work, the strengthening of the spirit of unity between its different members, and the need to resist the setbacks observed in the fight for social rights. In a context marked by attempts to call into question rights and achievements, the right to strike appears to be a central subject, calling for massive citizen mobilization.

Therefore, the Front invited all citizens to join this march, establishing the right to strike as a symbol of resistance and hope for a future where workers’ rights will be fully respected and protected.

It should be recalled that the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, held a meeting on Wednesday with representatives of trade union centers and the General Confederation of Moroccan Businesses ( CGEM), at the end of which he specified that the Executive is convinced that the promulgation of this vital text is able to support social and economic developments, and to ensure the exercise of the right strike without compromising freedom of work.

For Sekkouri, this collective work aims to bring together points of view on a certain number of essential observations, in particular the mechanisms and modalities for exercising the right to strike, specifying, in this sense, that additional amendments will be made to this text during discussions in the House of Advisors.
