The Spanish authorities wanted to pay tribute to the Moroccan teams urgently dispatched to lend a hand to the Valencia region, hit hard by the floods caused by storm Dana in November 2024.

During a ceremony organized in Valencia, the Spanish Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, praised the unfailing commitment of the Moroccan teams, sent under the instructions of King Mohammed VI and who made a decisive contribution in the relief and reconstruction operations. “Morocco’s support testifies to the depth of relations between our two nations, united by bonds of friendship and fraternity,” he said.

According to the minister, Moroccan teams carried out large-scale work, including the repair of more than 350 kilometers of damaged networks, the cleaning of 200 garages, as well as various interventions which made it possible to restore part of normality in the areas. disaster victims. “Their hard work, dedication and generosity have had a profound impact on the people of Spain. This exemplary assistance will remain engraved in our collective memory,” he added with emotion.

The event, marked by the presence of Spanish officials, including representatives of local authorities, elected officials and members of civil protection, was an opportunity to reiterate the gratitude of the Spanish people to the kingdom. Honorary certificates were given to the 103 members of the Moroccan teams as recognition for their exceptional commitment.

The minister also wanted to underline the speed and effectiveness of the Moroccan response, describing this gesture as “exemplary solidarity” which helped to restore hope to the affected populations.

As a reminder, Morocco had sent, on royal instructions, two exceptional convoys comprising 37 trucks specialized in pumping and sanitation, as well as highly qualified teams to intervene in the most affected areas.

An act of cooperation which, according to Fernando Grande-Marlaska, embodies the deeply fraternal nature of relations between Rabat and Madrid and the strength of the human ties which unite the two shores of the Mediterranean.
