BUSINESS. Established in Magog for more than 30 years and recognized for its iconic slogan, the Springs Canada store will permanently close its doors in the coming weeks.

This bad economic news was confirmed this morning (January 9) by the sales director at Springs Canada in Magog, Micheline Forgues. The latter also mentions that the closing sale is already underway in the premises, located in the former Dominion Textile.

The manager remained cautious when questioned about the reasons behind this business decision. However, she said the store was in excellent financial health. “It was a very good business. Yes, people from Magog and the region were loyal, but a large part of our clientele were people from outside, whether from Quebec, Montreal, the Laurentians and even English speakers. Our business was part of the tourist circuit of our city, due to our extremely low prices,” argues Ms. Forgues.

In its busiest years, the store had up to fifteen employees. Even though the number of staff has since been reduced, Micheline Forgues recalls that Springs Canada was one of the rare places to still be open 7 days a week, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. “For many years, the success of this store was mainly due to its founder Harvey Reicker, who was greatly appreciated in the community. He was a man with a heart on his sleeve. He has helped many Magog residents over the years. »

“And people very much identified Mr. Reicker and his wife with their slogan: ‘it’s not the decor that counts, it’s the prices.’ And I can say that today, with the closing sale, prices will never have been so low with additional discounts of 30% to 50%,” concludes the sales director.
