The Moroccan national team performed brilliantly in the Kings League, a futuristic football competition, winning two consecutive victories against Ukraine (9-0) and Japan (4-2).
In the Kings League, the match (Morocco-Ukraine) which took place on Saturday evening was marked by a strong start to the game, opening the scoring in the first minute.
This triumph also resounded during the Morocco-Japan match which took place on Monday. While the votes on Twitch predicted a large victory for Japan (83% against 17% for Morocco), it was Ilyas El Malki’s team which defied the predictions.
The goals scored by the Moroccans were classified among the most spectacular in the competition.
In a statement to the press, the president of the Kings League, Gerard Pique, praised the impressive level of the Moroccan team, now considered one of the favorites of the tournament and qualified for the quarter-finals.
Despite a difficult start, marked by a heavy defeat against Colombia (0-4), the Moroccan selection was able to win against experienced teams in this innovative tournament.
Created in 2022 by former Spanish international footballer Gerard Piqué, the Kings League, also called ” Kings Cup ”, is a 7-a-side football competition broadcast on digital platforms such as YouTube and Twitch.
Originally intended for former Spanish players and personalities, it gradually transformed into a global tournament bringing together 16 international teams and is now hosted in Italy.
-The competition is also planning new leagues in the next 12 months in Europe, Brazil, North America, the Middle East and Asia.
At the origin of this project, Gerard Piqué wanted to revolutionize classic football, considered too long and sometimes boring.
In a format inspired by futsal, the matches pit two teams of 7 players against each other over two 20-minute halves. The first half begins with a goalkeeper and a player, gradually joined by the other members of the team.
The game is distinguished by its innovative rules: bonus cubes appearing on the field, yellow cards leading to temporary exclusions (2 minutes) and goals counting double after the 38th minute.
The Moroccan selection, chaired by streamer Ilyas El Malki and coached by Majid El Khal, is made up of Youssef Sellam (goalkeeper), Marouane Mzirira (goalkeeper), Achraf Saoud, Nadir Laouah, Zakaria Hadraf, Mehdi Amri, Said El Aouni, Finani Hatim, Ilyas Nasri, Fouad Amrani and Issam Erraki.
