Twenty-two people died and 2,824 were injured, including 115 seriously, in 2,153 traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas during the week from December 30 to January 5, said the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN). ).
These accidents are mainly due to the inadvertence of drivers, failure to respect priority, the inadvertence of pedestrians, excessive speed, failure to maintain a safety distance, lack of control of vehicles, failure to obey the stop sign, changing direction without using a signal, faulty overtaking, driving in the prohibited direction, driving while intoxicated, driving in the left lane, failure to comply with the red light as well as unauthorized change of direction, said the DGSN.
Concerning the control and repression of traffic offenses, the security services established 47,556 tickets and drew up 8,306 reports submitted to the public prosecutor’s office, while 39,250 transactional fines were paid, added the same source.
The sums collected for these fines reached 8,507,275 dirhams, underlined the DGSN, reporting the municipal impoundment of 4,855 vehicles, the withdrawal of 8,306 documents and the immobilization of 374 vehicles.
