Strengthening Atlantic maritime and energy security
Morocco is the ally par excellence of the United States on the continent thanks to its free trade agreements and its strategic geographic position. Furthermore, the approaches of the two States to development are very similar, particularly in the areas of energy and security.
The United States seeks to strengthen stability in the world and especially in Africa. Sustain the atlantic border initiative proposed by King Mohammed VI of Morocco would open new trade routes for Washington. Avoiding the bipolarization of the world, as during the Cold War, is one of the priorities that could lead the future Trump administration to support the Atlantic facade.
Africa in American politics
Although Africa has historically played a secondary role in American foreign policy, the growing influence and good relations with Morocco could make the United States a more than crucial actor in meeting the challenges of the future: the transition energy and the promotion of renewable energies.
Africa is no longer just a supplier of raw materials, but has become a power with essential resources. For example, the Democratic Republic of Congo has about 70% of the world’s reserves of cobalt, essential for rechargeable batteries; THE Zimbabwe has significant lithium deposits; And South Africa is a major producer of platinum and palladium, essential for emissions reduction technologies.
The Alawite administration stressed that the more Africa develops, the better it will be for the rest of the planet, since from 2050, half of children under 25 will be of African origin.
