Lists of bakeries and pastry shops in the Lot
For Epiphany, the Regional Natural Park-UNESCO Global Geopark of the Causses du Quercy and the Lot Chamber of Trades and Crafts are offering, for the second edition, an original collection of beans, the Géofèves. Inspired by the geological past of the Causses du Quercy, these five beans represent emblematic animals of five major periods, from the Jurassic to today.
The Géofèves can be found until the end of January in the galettes des rois of twelve artisan bakers and pastry chefs who took part in the game: Pâtisserie Quercynoise in Gramat ; bakery-pastry shop C. Romain in Gramat ; The OvenAssier ; M. and Mme Laverdet to Montfaucon ; Le Panis bakery in Labastide-Murat ; Boulangerie du Vert in cat ; Tybalt and Nicolas bakery and pastry shop in Cajarc ; “From the Mill to the Oven” Cabrerets ; T46 to Concots ; Maison Olivier in Fontanes ; the Gourmanderie de Laulau in Montpezat-de-Quercy ; The Fournil du Causse in Laramière.
Entertainment this Saturday in Laramière
Saturday January 11, 2025 in Laramière, the Lot geological nature reserve offers an animation with a paleontological quiz around the prehistoric animals of the Geopark appearing on the geofeves. This activity will be followed by a snack with king cakes
participating artisans. Enough to launch the Géofèves collection!
Families with children over 10 years old and adolescents are welcome to participate in this time of exchange. Meet at 4 p.m. at the Laramière village hall.
Geology to eat
The Géofèves are a project carried out jointly by the Parc-Géoparc and the Chambre de Métiers to talk about geology in an unusual way. The objective: to introduce the very rich paleontological heritage of the Causses du Quercy to residents, through a tradition appreciated by families. The five collectible beans each represent an animal that lived in a geological period, from the Jurassic to today, including the time of the first mammals. Foodies will have the whole month of January to complete their collection!
Before the Géofèves, the Parc-Géoparc and the Chambre de Métiers had already created the Géodélices in 2018: a range of chewable pebbles, reproducing geological objects emblematic of the territory and made by artisan pastry chefs and chocolatiers from the region. Thanks to their talent, the phosphate nodules and other calcite roses are adorned with the flavors of the causse: walnuts, lavender, saffron, wild thyme. In 2025, new Géodélices will be released to complete the existing range.
A strong partnership
The creation of GéoDélices and then Géofèves was made possible by the very strong partnership which unites the Regional Natural Park – UNESCO Global Geopark and the Chamber of Trades and Crafts of the Lot. The two structures have worked together since 2000 and the Geopark Park welcomes a Chamber mission manager to its premises. The partnership is structured around different actions: support for the transfer-takeover of businesses in the region, promotion of know-how in the restoration of built heritage, relaunch of a local stone industry, promotion of artistic crafts, etc.
This partnership of more than twenty years between the Parc-Géoparc and the Chamber of Trades and Crafts is today a reference at the national level.
