Kia discontinues the EV6 GT in Canada

The high-performance version of Kia’s EV6 electric crossover will no longer be offered here although it will continue its route to the United States with some improvements for the 2025 model year. The news was confirmed at Car guide by a Kia Canada spokesperson.

Unsubsidized in Quebec due to its excessively high price (MSRP starting at $69,995), the Kia EV6 GT is proving very unpopular. More than fifty copies are still available for immediate delivery to various dealers in the province at the time of writing these lines. Despite the $5,000 federal grant, the success of this model has not been achieved elsewhere in the country either.

The 2024 EV6 GT, remember, has two electric motors generating a total of 576 horsepower and 546 lb-ft of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, making it the fastest production vehicle in Kia’s history. In return, its 77.4 kWh battery only offers 351 km of range.

For 2025, the EV6 GT benefits not only from some aesthetic changes, but also from a larger battery with a capacity of 84 kWh, resulting in a gain in autonomy.

Above all, its power and torque climb to 641 horsepower and 568 lb-ft in GT mode, equaling the new 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N. The latter, however, remains sportier and more focused on track driving. Note that both offer the same type of system which simulates gear changes and attempts to recreate the sensations of a gasoline car.

For us performance enthusiasts, the fact that this upgraded EV6 GT will not be sold in Canada is sad news. On the other hand, we understand the company’s logic very well given the very low sales. By the way, the IONIQ 5 N won’t be a big seller either with its price exceeding $80,000 including fees and the absence of subsidies.

As for the other versions of the EV6, expected on the market in the first half of 2025, prices and official autonomy have not yet been announced. The range will be available as follows: Light, Wind, Land, GT-Line and GT-Limited. The first two can be obtained with a propulsion system and will add a heat pump.

Continue to follow The Car Guide for further details until the 2025 Kia EV6 goes on sale in Canada.
