A disturbance from the west of France will hit the north of France and will result in snowfall from Wednesday to Thursday morning in Nord-Pas-de-Calais as well as in the north of Normandy.
After a few flakes this Tuesday, January 7 in the morning, the return of snow is already expected in the coming hours in the north of France. Due to a new disturbance, precipitation is forecast in the northwest of France from Wednesday January 8. In Hauts-de-France and Upper Normandy, due to low temperatures, this should result in snowfall.
“This precipitation, arriving following several significant rainy episodes, could also cause certain rivers to react,” Météo-France warns. For the moment, only a few rivers are placed on yellow flood alert.
“The quantities (of snow, editor’s note) can be significant,” adds the meteorological service.
Several centimeters of snow are expected, without Météo-France specifying with certainty the extent of the phenomenon.
A possible “worsening of vigilance”
If a clear mild spell is expected just after the disturbance passes in most of the regions affected by the disturbance, Nord-Pas-de-Calais will be spared. Consequence: snowfall could continue until Thursday morning in the region, where a few centimeters could be added to those already fallen the day before.
Yellow snow and ice vigilance is active in the two northern departments until 11 a.m. Thursday morning. However, “a worsening of vigilance could be issued when the location of snow precipitation is less uncertain”, announces Météo-France.
Several scenarios are still possible regarding the progression of the warm weather from the southwest and the extent of snow precipitation.
This Tuesday morning, three centimeters of snow have already fallen in certain municipalities, such as Desvres (Pas-de-Calais), where the snow transformed into frost then into ice.
