The gendarmes of the Gironde Departmental Road Safety Squadron (EDSR33) were omnipresent the first weekend of January on the roads and highways. A network of the territory intended to secure the return from vacation. A young 18-year-old motorist holding a probationary license was flashed at the wheel of a Peugeot 206 by the gendarmes of the La Réole motorized brigade at 167 km/h for a speed limited to 80 km/h on the departmental road 670A, in the commune of Camiran.
A 24-year-old driver, driving an Audi RS3, was intercepted at 192 km/h for 110 on the RN89 in Beychac-et-Caillau. A forty-year-old was checked by the gendarmes of the Langon motorway platoon at 148 km/h instead of 80 km/h on the RD671 in Saint-André-du-Bois.
Impounded
For these three motorists, the result was the same: impoundment of their car, six withdrawal points on the driving license with immediate detention and summons to court. They finished their journey on foot, by train or by taxi. “The road is not a circuit, it is shared,” recalls squadron leader Christophe Guiraud, commander of the Gironde EDSR. Furthermore, during the same weekend, the gendarmes noted six offenses related to drink driving, as many driving under drugs, five driving license faults, two insurance faults and seized 500 g of cannabis.
There was also a refusal to comply by a motorcyclist in Saucats, flashed at 150 km/h while he was driving his machine under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
