According to the official statement, this is not an immediate withdrawal, but rather the start of a transitional process, which could ultimately take a period of five years, in accordance with the recommendation of the Policy Committee . development of the United Nations.

A process supervised by the United Nations

The ministry recalled that the withdrawal of a country from the LDC category follows a rigorous procedure within the competent United Nations bodies. Indeed, resolution A/RES/79/230, adopted on December 19, 2024 by the United Nations General Assembly, established a transitional period of five years to allow Senegal to prepare to leave this category. This process aims to guarantee a gradual and controlled transition, thus leading to any disruption in the country’s development efforts.

A national strategy for a successful transition

In order to ensure a smooth exit, the Government is working to develop a national transition strategy. This will be aligned with the new public policy framework, called “Senegal 2050: National Transformation Agenda”. This ambitious program aims to project Senegal onto a trajectory of sustainable and inclusive development, while capitalizing on the achievements made in recent years.

The ministry calls for avoiding any confusion or misinterpretation of this process and reaffirms Senegal’s commitment to pursuing its socio-economic development within a coherent and structured framework.
