From snow to Christmas, it's been years since the miracle happened, even on the Vosges heights. So with 40 centimeters of white gold firmly installed, including 20 centimeters of powder that fell on Thursday, skiers and operators alike are enjoying it.

1,500 passes sold this Friday, January 3 and probably as many today with the sun coming over the Vosges peaks, enough to put a smile on the face of Thomas Cron, operator of the Markstein ski lifts.
“The start of the season is very good, attendance too, attendance is holding up despite the end of the holidays”he rejoices. It must be said that 20 centimeters of fresh snow fell this Thursday, enough to open 11 out of 12 slopes in the Alpine area.
Snow for the Christmas holidays, that hasn't happened in years. “We've been going up to Markstein for 3 days to ski, testifies this Alsatian and it's great! The same goes for this little girl who enjoys the white coat found, “Last year we couldn’t go skiing so this year it’s so good!”
Last season was indeed catastrophic, with little or no snow. For comparison, the Markstein is on its 15th day of opening this season compared to… zero at the same time last year! And the resort is proud to have been the first in France to open in November when the first snowflakes fell on the Vosges.
“Last winter is to be forgottenconfirms Thomas Cron, what this start of the season allows us to do. We are staying in the Vosges massif so we have to stock up, anticipate but take advantage when possible and the skiers have understood this too!”
At the Markstein farm inn, we have the same happy face. “We've never seen this in the 5 years we've been here, laughs Laura Deybach, the manager. We are full almost all the time these last few days.”
And everyone, to scan the sky and the weather forecast which announces a warm spell for the next few days with unfortunately no doubt rain but perhaps also snow at the end of next week.
