Jean-Marie Oustry, the mayor of Villesèque, takes stock of the past year.
How was the year that just ended?
The year 2024 was of course marked by the national context, which had direct effects at the local level. We are living in troubled times, and it seems that our elected officials are lost or do not take the country's interests into account. How many senior officials, for the most part, have experienced local management on a small scale: organizing a community hall, getting involved in community action, providing service to others, getting their hands dirty, as they say? ? It is high time that some people finally step forward and defend the interest of their country, rather than their personal or clan interests. Over the last few months, we have experienced a “clan” Republic, but what a spectacle we are giving to our young people! It is time to show solidarity and understanding among ourselves, in a world marked by so much inequality.
What were the main achievements of the municipality in 2024?
At the municipal level, we were able to successfully complete our project to create a “third place”, called “la Grangette”, which was inaugurated on January 27 by the prefect of Lot and various personalities. For its management and animation, we encouraged the creation of an ad hoc association, which worked greatly to make this place a convivial space, but also a cultural site with the library, art exhibitions and workshops. de la Grangette, in very diverse areas. In short, people meet there and get to know each other, that was the main objective. We have put in place the second phase of the exterior fire defense with the installation of two additional tarpaulins. We have also protected our heritage by completely restoring the surrounding wall of the Trébaïx cemetery. Furthermore, work was carried out on our rural roads and we continued our project to highlight the built heritage with the installation of a new information panel in the hamlet of Les Salles.
How does 2025 look like for our town?
First of all, we must take into account the financial prospects, which are not encouraging. In terms of development, we should carry out the project to create the La Pélissière public garden, continue the fire-fighting plan and the enhancement of heritage, as well as other developments, such as the repair of the roof of the oven bread and the improvement of certain public spaces. We will also benefit from civic service employment to revitalize the third place. But I repeat, it is crucial to take into account the financial situation, conditioned by the state budget.
What messages do you want for your municipality?
At the start of this year, I wish health and happiness to each resident of our town, as well as to their families and loved ones. I welcome the new residents who have settled here, as well as the new businesses that have been created. I also wish the associations success in the actions they carry out. Finally, I hope that our socio-cultural space becomes a place conducive to conviviality, to develop even more sharing, solidarity and understanding between us.
