The inhabitants of the Cité Comico (Military Construction Cooperative), located in Yeumbeul , in the department of Keur Massar, are in excitement as the visit of the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, scheduled for this Saturday approaches. This visit will mark the official launch of the 8th edition of the National Day “Sétal Sunu Réew” dedicated to citizen mobilization for a cleaner environment.

Papa Ibrahima Fall, one of the six neighborhood delegates in the city, shared with the APS: “this morning, I sent a message in our WhatsApp group to ask the neighborhood delegates to mobilize residents in order to welcome the President of the Republic on Saturday (January 4, 2024). » This message testifies to the general enthusiasm that reigns in this neighborhood, particularly among the families of soldiers, gendarmes, and firefighters who reside there.

Created in 2004, Cité COMICO houses around 450 houses spread between six districts: Series A, B, C, D1, D2 and E, and has nearly 2,000 inhabitants. This community is particularly close-knit and invests daily in preserving its environment. Mr. Fall, delegate of the Série E district, underlines: “Here, each neighbor strives to copy the good practices of the other, whether in terms of behavior, good manners, or social harmony. »

The neighborhood, which benefits from well-maintained sandy streets and a green environment, has various basic infrastructures: two primary schools, a large mosque, three neighborhood mosques, a chapel and a nursery under construction. The Ministry of Armed Forces is responsible for coordinating this national event which takes place under the theme “Seetal sa gokh, aar sa yaram: Alongside citizens, the armed forces take action. »

The choice of Cité COMICO to host the launch of this national day is not insignificant. Papa Ibrahima Fall suggests that this choice could be linked to the community’s commitment to defending the environment. “Only the presidency knows the reasons for this choice,” he adds, highlighting the daily struggle of residents for a healthy living environment.

At the same time, the mayor of Yeumbeul Nord, Babacar Ndao, expressed his joy at the idea of welcoming the head of state, saying: “The entire commune of Yeumbeul Nord will mobilize for this occasion. » The mayor also highlights the importance of environmental management in the town, specifying that 40 young people have been recruited to monitor and protect the local living environment.

The CEM Comico school, which houses 1,120 students spread over 16 classes, has also prepared activities on cleanliness and environmental management to accompany this day. The principal of the establishment, Balla Ndiaye, announced that the school will be well represented to welcome the president. The CEM COMICO also obtained an excellent result in 2023-2024 with a success rate of 91.30% for the Brevet de End d’Etudes Moyennes (BFEM).

The residents of COMICO City, although some are not yet aware of the presidential visit, are impatient. Aminata Diop, a widow and neighborhood godmother, welcomed the president’s choice for this edition of the national day, while highlighting the needs for additional infrastructure, such as better access to water, a sewer network, and good roads to improve daily life.

Some young people in the neighborhood, although unaware of the imminent visit, say they are honored by the event. Aliou Sagne, a mason by profession, declares: “If I could approach the president, I would ask him to support young people in accessing employment and training. »

This Saturday’s visit is an opportunity for the residents of Cité COMICO to demonstrate their commitment to a cleaner environment and to recall the challenges they face on a daily basis.
