Here are the main headlines developed by the national press for this Saturday, January 4, 2025
Liberation
• Outstanding bank credit stood at 1,122.5 billion dirhams (billion dirhams) during the first eleven months of 2024, up 4.1% from one year to the next, according to Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM). This outstanding amount is distributed among non-financial agents with 947 billion dirhams and financial agents (175.5 billion dirhams), specifies BAM in its recent “Bank Credits-Deposits” dashboard. Credit to private non-financial companies marked, year-on-year, an increase of 1.8% covering increases of 7.9% in equipment loans, 6.4% in those for real estate development and a decline of 1.3% of liquidity facilities.
• The index of unit values for imports fell by 1.6% and that for exports increased by 0.5% in the 3rd quarter of 2024, according to the HCP. The drop in the import unit value index mainly results from the decrease in unit values of energy and lubricants by 13.1%, finished products of industrial equipment by 4%, food, beverages and tobacco by 4.5% and raw products of animal and plant origin by 7.3%, explains the HCP in an information note relating to foreign trade indices.

• Majida Chahid, USFP MP, questioned the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amine Tehraoui, on the continued spread of measles among students in schools in the north and the rest of Morocco. She called on the minister, who should respond in detail on the matter, to reveal the measures and procedures that have been taken at the level of public hospitals and urban and rural health centers to deal with the spread of measles in the educational establishments.

• Industrial activity in Morocco would have recorded, in November 2024, a drop in production and an increase in sales compared to the previous month, according to Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM). By branch, the drop in production would be attributable to the decline recorded in the “chemistry and parachemistry” branch and more particularly in the “chemical industry”, indicates BAM in its recent monthly industrial situation survey. On the other hand, production would have increased in “electrical and electronics” and stagnated in other branches.

• Opposition groups in the House of Representatives called on the government to pay more attention to clarifying the proposed amendments to the Family Code. The MP, the USFP and the PJD demanded the holding of a parliamentary session to discuss the points included in the next amendments.
• Moroccan expert, Khadija Bendam, became first Vice-President of the International Council of Nuclear Companies (INSC), an international organization founded in 1990 and bringing together nuclear companies from around the world. Bendam, representative of “Women in Nuclear-Global”, thus becomes the first woman to occupy this prestigious position within the INSC, which represents more than 80,000 professionals in the sector.
