The Canadian under-20 team was again knocked out of the World Championship on January 2, during the quarter-finals, thus proving the thesis of many: a major problem presented itself during the formation of the team . Canadian management did not select all the good players, leaving behind several young players with very refined hockey sense. We instead opted for “grit” without worrying about raw talent…
It’s totally absurd that Beckett Sennecke, Michael Misa, Zayne Parekh and Carter Yakemchuk are sitting on their couch, watching Canada get overtaken by other nations…
It’s simple, the (role) mentality that Dave Cameron wanted to establish sunk this training, nothing less. Canada will have to look in the mirror to see the damage, since this nation is certainly not heading in the right direction. It is certainly not for nothing that during amateur auctions, the percentage of Canadian players selected fell drastically.
That said, Dave Cameron, the choice of players and the high level of adversity certainly pushed Canada out of the medal round… But another aspect was delivered by the chief pilot of this Canadian mount, namely the fatigue which was imposed. This is most likely why Mr. Cameron did not hold any training sessions during the tournament.
“Our players were exhausted and there are no systems for tired players!” – Cameron
Cameron will no longer be welcome in the structure of Team Canadawho will have to go back to the drawing board for the next World Championship. Cameron was reluctant to juggle his combinations too much, since this tournament is too short to start “punishing” players, in his own words.
As journalist Kevin Dubé wisely pointed out in his excellent article about this Canadian failure: “He was right about that. It was very short.”
