The Moroccan obsession against the backdrop of a diplomatic crisis

The Moroccan obsession against the backdrop of a diplomatic crisis

This is not the first time that the transitional government in power in Mali has denounced Algeria’s attempts at interference.

Bamako regularly accuses Algiers of supporting armed terrorist groups on Malian soil.

And this is not the first time either that Algeria, a fantasy of Morocco’s shadow wherever it suits it.

And this time, once again, it is certain Algerian media which are “transcended” by a “vision” of the Kingdom.

Indeed, following the denunciation in a press release from the Malian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of certain comments made by the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf, TSA, Algerian online information site and spokesperson for the regime generals, thinks he sees “ clearly the hand of Morocco in the drafting of this press release » believing that this will have certain consequences on relations between Mali and Algeria.

But the problem is elsewhere, it is old and culminated with the declaration of Ahmed Attaf, Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, on December 30 during a press conference when he affirmed that “ The military solution is impossible in the Sahel, particularly in Mali, because it has failed three times in the past » before refusing to assimilate the armed opposition movements which signed the Algiers peace agreement in 2015 to terrorist entities.

Result of this lack of tact, a nagging reaction from Bamako which indicates in the said press release that “ the undeniable successes of the Malian army and the pressure exerted on terrorist groups supported by Algeria are difficult to convey to certain Algerian officials, nostalgic for a bygone past ».

« Mali is neither asking nor taking lessons from Algeria » also indicates the Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation who expresses “ its deep concern following the persistence of certain Algerian authorities in continuing acts of interference in the internal affairs of the Republic of Mali, marked by paternalism, condescension and contempt ».

Moreover, he invites the Algerian regime to “ refocus its energy on resolving its own internal crises and contradictions, including the Kabyle question ».

A small slap which was poorly received since the author of the article perceives the imprint of a Moroccan hand qualifying the Malian declaration as “ serious deviation where we clearly see the hand of Morocco in the drafting of this press release ».

That Algiers takes a dim view of the rapprochement between Morocco and Mali and with most of the countries of the Sahel is one thing, but tacitly accusing Rabat of interference when we are even being singled out, demonstrates the simplicity analysis of a country blatantly lacking in diplomatic imagination.

Morocco announced in 2021 its support for the Movement for the Self-Determination of Kabylie which is classified as a terrorist organization in Algeria, says the author of the article and therefore makes the connection with the Kabyle question mentioned in the Malian press release.

And there you have it, how by a poorly inspired shortcut and once is not customary that “it’s Morocco’s fault” if Mali denounces interference, it’s Morocco’s fault if the Algiers agreement fell through to water, it is Morocco’s fault if famine exists in the world…

The reflection that the mirror reflects when the Algerian regime sees itself in it seems to be clearly unbearable.

So unbearable that he can no longer face himself.

The country has managed to alienate most of its neighbors (Mali, Niger, Libya and Mauritania), its diplomatic actions in the Sahel are no longer welcome and its political archaism pushes it to the limits of isolation. regional and yet he never questions himself.

This stubbornness, this condescension and this paranoia provoked by Morocco will certainly lead to what Mali suggests: Algeria will inevitably end up “refocus your energy on resolving your own internal crises and contradictions » and we all witnessed the surge of the Hirak.

As a reminder, the diet only held together thanks to a virus.
