The Mayotte archipelago was devastated by Cyclone Chido. Three weeks after this natural disaster, the leader of the National Rally deputies will go to the archipelago. Marine Le Pen is expected on Sunday and will stay until Tuesday, the far-right party announced in a press release.
“You have suffered the worst, you have seen the devastation past,” Marine Le Pen declared Tuesday in a video for the Mahorais posted on social networks for the new year. “We will do everything in our power to expedite the help you need,” she added.
Do not “betray” the Mahorais again
While Emmanuel Macron on December 19 and 20, then François Bayrou at the start of the week, successively visited the archipelago to observe the colossal damage of the cyclone and outlined emergency and longer-term measures, Marine Le Pen had judged that “the announcements made by the Prime Minister for Mayotte are undoubtedly going in the right direction”.
“We hope that the hopes of the Mahorais will not be betrayed again and that this plan will be implemented and respected. As deputies, we will, of course, ensure that the word given is respected,” she insisted. The president of the deputies of the National Rally has already visited Mayotte several times in recent years, a territory for which she regularly proclaims her attachment and where she achieved among her best scores in the 2022 presidential election (59.10% in the second round). She was notably on site in April 2024 to support Jordan Bardella's list in the European elections on June 9.
