The Committee on Justice, Legislation and Human Rights under the House of Representatives begins its meetings on the reform of the Family Code, on January 7, 2025. Notified by the president of the committee and elected member of the opposition , Said Baaziz (USFP), this first meeting will be held in the presence of Ministers Abdellatif Ouahbi and Ahmed Toufiq, according to the parliamentary agenda. It should make it possible to deepen the exchange on the main lines of amendments, made public at the end of the working session chaired by King Mohammed VI last December.
During a press meeting the day after this working session, the Ministers of Justice and Habous and Islamic Affairs presented the 16 points on which the reform of the Family Code should focus. In a context where the debates focused in particular on the best interests of the child, proof of filiation of children born out of wedlock by DNA test and inheritance provisions, this committee session is being held after the interventions of parliamentary groups from opposition, during the oral questions session last Monday.
In their points of order, elected officials recommended the holding of a joint session, the objective of which is to discuss these “matters of major national interest”, in accordance with article 68 of the Constitution, as well as Articles 262 and 263 of the Rules of Procedure of Parliament.
