Tuesday, December 31, the Guyanese Association of Health Users delivered solidarity packages to needy families. An operation made possible by a collection in December in front of food stores.
Who said solidarity had disappeared? Certainly not Joachim Hyasine. The president of the Guyanese Association of Health Users (Agus) carried out a distribution of solidarity packages on this last day of 2024.
It has been more than 20 years since his association, even if it did not have that name at the start, has been doing this to bring a better life to families in need. This year, Agus members have something to celebrate: “we collected more than in previous years” says the president.
One hundred families are supported by the association. These are single people or sometimes families. To help them, volunteers carried out collections. “From December 22 to 24, we were in front of Coin Frais and Hyper Uexplains Marie France René, member of Agus, when making the distribution. We then asked people who were going shopping to help us. » Several products are targeted: non-perishable foods such as canned goods, pasta, sugar or rice, but also hygiene or cleaning products.
« In recent years, precariousness has continued to increase in Guyana, regrets Joachim Hyasine. These packages are intended for families who are the most deprived, the most neglected. »
Marie-Laure, a worker at Samu Social, came to collect a food package for a lady who was unable to come on the day of the distribution. « She is a woman who lived on the street. Today, she has housing, but she has difficulty eating. »
In total, around 150 packages were prepared. The association is planning new actions in the coming months, always with the same objective: to give a little to those who sometimes have nothing.
