SENEGAL-SPORT / The FSH wants to set up a beach handball league (President) – Senegalese press agency

Dakar, Jan 2 (APS) – The Senegalese Handball Federation (FSH) is working on the establishment of a “Beach Handball League” to better promote this discipline across the national territory, announced its president Seydou Diouf.

“The objective that we have within the federation is to set up a Beach League because the discipline must be disseminated,” he said in an interview published Thursday in delivery of the sports daily Record.

Beach handball is a variation of handball that is played barefoot on the beach or, if not on the beach, on a sandy area. Two teams, each made up of four players, including the goalkeeper, compete in two ten-minute periods.

Beach handball is played on a 27 × 12 meter court. Unlike indoor handball, the goal surface is rectangular (6 x 12 m) and the number of points varies depending on the type of goal

Seydou Diouf believes that beach handball is not necessarily practiced on the beach.

“(…) beach handball is played on the sand and in all the cities of Senegal, there is sand,” explained the president of the Senegalese Handball Federation.

He pointed out that for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) planned for 2026 in Senegal, beach hand is the discipline selected in handball.

»It turns out that beach handball is not widely practiced in Senegal outside of Dakar where there are a few small clubs moving here and there. Beach handball is not structured at the federal level,” said the president of the FSH.

Seydou Diouf listed a vast program to prepare young Senegalese for beach handball events for the YOG.
