But this is not the only particularity of this mission accomplished by TSF which is, remember, a member of the United Nations international cluster dedicated to telecoms in emergency situations.
“Mayotte is an island, quite isolated. So it's not easy to go there and then, for the operators, to get the networks back up and running. This is why communications systems are all the more important in such cases,” summarizes Emmanuel Jean, communications manager at TSF, from the Pau headquarters.

Operating jointly with other organizations, “such as Médecins du Monde”, the TSF traveling team, likely to “stay for several weeks”, nevertheless strives to respond as best as possible to a strong demand from disaster victims thanks to a system of satellite telephony.

It travels through towns located on the north and west coasts of the island. Thus responding to real needs as Yassira, a resident, confirmed to the Pau team: “just after the cyclone, we were all focused on one question: “Who is alive? “So people walked, sometimes up to 5 hours to go to Mamoudzou (the capital), and find a connection point in order to reassure the family.”
To date, “via a free wifi network, we have been able to help more than 900 people. And also allow more than a hundred priority calls,” continues the NGO employee. Particularly to the neighboring island of Comoros where communications are very expensive.
The Béarnaise organization further extends the endless list of regions of the globe in which its know-how has been required. TSF has in fact already been mobilized in no less than 160 crisis situations, following armed conflicts, migratory crises in the Mediterranean or at the Mexican border, and other natural disasters of course.
Present in Mayotte, it also manages ongoing missions in the islands of Saint Vincent and Grenadine (after the passage of Hurricane Beryl), in Lebanon where it supports refugees and displaced people, in Ukraine, etc. TSF, which employs around thirty people around the world, has offices in Mexico and Madagascar.
