The 42-year-old man was identified by American authorities as the alleged perpetrator of the attack which left at least fifteen dead and around thirty injured on New Year's Eve.
Shamsud-Din Jabbar is behind the attack in New Orleans in the United States. On Wednesday January 1, he entered a pick-up truck at full speed on a busy street in the city center, then opened fire, before being shot dead by the police. The results show 15 dead and around thirty injured.
The suspect was 42 years old, his house was searched by the FBI. An American citizen, born in Texas, he served in the United States Army from 2007 to 2015, deployed in several theaters of war. He had since become a real estate agent. Converted to Islam in his youth, the suspect was radicalized according to his relatives. An Islamic State flag and explosives were found in the pickup.
It remains to be seen whether the suspect acted alone. “We do not believe Jabbar was solely responsible. We are closely following all leads, including those from his known associates”says an FBI agent. Three men and a woman are actively sought, considered potential accomplices.
