Travel trains youth, says the proverb; in any case, this is what we wish for Victor, Mathieu and Florian, who we will find in August 2025 on the starting line of the 10th edition of the Europ'Raid, a road trip solidaire reserved only for Peugeot 205 !
Friends since high schoolthe three twenty-year-old friends therefore decided to travel the roads of the old continent at the wheel of their 1992 Peugeot D Turbo. “We did our final year together, at the Lehec high school in Saint-Hilaire (Manche), we are all passionate of 205 and we wanted to take a trip with friends, for a good cause,” explains Victor.
Created in 2014, the Europ'Raid takes participants through an 8,000 km route, crossing 20 countries in 22 dayswithout assistance, using a beacon, a GPS, and a logbook. In teams of three, participants connect more than 220 stages, 13 capitals, and no less than 60 UNESCO world heritage sites. “We will take turns on the course, there are stages to respect, but we are free to choose the routes,” says Mathieu.
The three Manchesis will cross an incredibly varied setting, from the Mediterranean Sea to the Black Sea, through the Carpathian and Tatra mountains, from the Rhine to the Danube, from the Black Forest to the Albanian Riviera. Every evening, the crews will bivouac in a unique location where cultural evenings will be organized with the aim of getting to know the populations and other participants of the raid.
A humanitarian trip
This year, approximately 250 crews will start the event. Each vehicle will be loaded with at least 70 kg of school materialssports or medical to be transported to isolated schools in Eastern Europe.
“A number is assigned to each car before departure and based on this, we will know where to leave the equipment,” explains Mathieu. The crews will also have to bring 2 kg of food, to be handed over before their departure, for the benefit of restaurants of the heart.
Looking for sponsors
In order to finance their trip, Victor, Mathieu and Florian need help from partners and are already supported by the Manoir de la Roche Torin, the Lonlay-l'Abbaye biscuit factory, the Chèvrerie d'Eliss in Crollon and the HL Création hair salon in Combourg. “We need additional sponsors to cover registration fees, security, maintenance, organization, meals, fuel and possible repair costs,” explain the young runners.
“We will have the name of each sponsor on the car,” they add. This one, an 80 horsepower 205D turbo, with an honorable 300,000 km on the odometer, will be revamped for the occasion. “We would like to do a rally style with stripes on the sides,” explains Mathieu. A stylistic effort that could make the difference, because, at the end of the raid, one of the 250 vehicles will receive the prize for the most beautiful cara reward to reduce the cost of participating in the next race.
