The “Music and Snow” festival will host the Vaudois resort of Les Diablerets for the 56th edition, from January 1st to March 1st. Eight concerts are on the bill at the Vers-l’Eglise temple, over two months, for this chamber music event.
The festival will open on January 1 with folk music and yodeling. The traditional New Year’s concert will see yodeler Barbara Klossner, aka Miss Helvetia, perform in a trio.
For this 56th edition, the current artistic director Gilles Champoud, who is celebrating five years at the head of the festival, wanted to re-invite artists who have left their mark on previous editions. Among them, the Atanassov trio and the Niek Baar duo, as well as the Moraguès quintet, exceptionally in a quartet, accompanied by pianist Claire Désert.
The Belcea quartet, pianist Cédric Pescia, the Ensemble Variante and the Chamber Choir of the University of Friborg accompanied by renowned soloists, will also be there.
Eight concerts
Stringed instruments such as the piano or the violin, accordion, cello, horn, flute, oboe or even clarinet and bassoon will resonate in the Vaud Pre-Alps. Spectators will be able to delight in the works of Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Caplet. Also on the bill are Dvorák, Ravel, Schoenberg, Schubert and Schumann.
The seven dates, in addition to the opening concert on January 1, are January 18 and 25, February 1, 8, 15 and 22 as well as March 1. All concerts will begin at 6:15 p.m.
Since 1970, the credo of this festival has been “to offer music lovers from the region and guests passing through the resort high-quality concerts, at extremely popular prices, in a warm atmosphere where simplicity, welcome and friendship reign”. indicate the organizers in a press release. It was the British actor and director Peter Ustinov (1921-2004), who then lived in Les Diablerets, who was at the origin of this event.
