A head-on collision on Route 235 resulted in two deaths and three injuries, including children, in Saint-Hyacinthe on Saturday afternoon.

Around 3:30 p.m., the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) authorities were called to go to Route 235, in the portion also called Rang Saint-André. They spotted five injured people, including two children.

One of the vehicles was carrying four people. “The death of the driver was noted on the scene and the death of the front passenger was confirmed at the hospital,” said Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, spokesperson for the SQ.

The two children, who were in this car, were transferred to a hospital. Their state of health is not yet known by the SQ.

The driver of the second vehicle was alone. She was also transported to a hospital, where her life is not in danger.

According to initial information from Officer Bilodeau, the accident occurred on a “slight curve”. The roadway was icy, but the sergeant did not confirm whether this factor contributed to the accident.

A reconstructionist will be on site to better understand the circumstances of this event. The portion of this road is currently closed.
