Worthy of a film, the (very) eventful Christmas of Burhan and Hakan in Trooz and Blegny: “Despite our van accident, we were able to deliver the presents”

“He fell on me, lifeless, with blood flowing from his head”

And to transport all this, they had borrowed a (large) van. “We were almost at the center, details Burhan. We were going to go under a bridge, but the van was a little too high and it clipped him.” Bad luck, Hakan had leaned forward just long enough to take off his jacket. “He was thrown against the windshield. He fell on me, unconscious, with blood pouring from his head.” A few moments later, help arrived on the scene. “The paramedics gave Hakan first aid before taking him away and the police took my statement.” In short, they were far, very far from this beautiful day that they had been waiting for for a long time. Fortunately, the news about Hakan was reassuring. “At first we thought it would be serious. But he ended up coming away with three stitches. He was able to leave the hospital around 9 p.m..”

With Hakan injured and Buhran in shock, they were unable to ensure distribution to the center of Trooz. “So, Ibrahim, a friend who also works as a nurse in La Brouck, and my brother-in-law took over.”

“When he woke up, he first asked if the presents had been delivered”

Their journey would then take them to “Wonderlands”, a residential service, located in Blegny, for people with disabilities. “At first, I didn’t think I would go.” But he received a call from Hakan’s dad, who told him that his son was worried about the packages. “When he woke up, he first asked if the gifts had been delivered. He wanted me to go all the way.” Which he did. “I left with Ibrahim and we went to Blegny.”

An avalanche of emotions

It was a very strange mix of feelings there.. “At first, I was sad that my friend was not with me. But I was really touched by seeing the reactions of the residents. They were moved, some were crying. Every time I said a word, I was applauded. I had never felt such emotion when speaking in front of people And yet, I am a school principal. (editor’s note: the Sinibaldo Basile school, in Grâce-Hollogne). I’m used to giving speeches.” In short, everything didn’t go as planned, but everything ended well. And look forward to next year, so that they can start again, we hope, in a slightly more serene manner.
