Samsung plans to expand the options for managing alerts and notifications enabling the One UI 7 update, based on Android 15. Currently, the One UI interface already gives you solid controls to easily prioritize notifications, and this new version seems ready to go even further.

Currently, One UI allows you to sort notifications by priority or time and refine them individually. However, according to information shared on Reddit The latest One UI 7 beta introduces a new section in the notification settings called “Filter Notifications”.

What is the new “Filter Notifications” feature in One UI 7?

The “Filter Notifications” feature allows users to limit non-urgent notifications by sorting them into specific groups in the notification panel. This feature includes three buttons, each corresponding to a different level of notification filtering:

  1. Old notifications: Filters notifications of outdated apps.
  2. Background notifications: Filters notifications from apps running in the background.
  3. Reduced notifications: Filters alerts manually set as “reduced” in settings.

Notifications from these categories will remain visible in the notification panel, but will be grouped into an undefined card or a card labeled “More notifications” for multiple categories. These grouped items will not be specifically labeled by category, but can be viewed by expanding the map. Users will be able to view details by tapping on them or dismiss them manually, similar to regular notifications.

Samsung against Google notification controls

Samsung’s new feature appears to surpass Google Android’s notification controls, adding a new layer of customization. Meanwhile, Google is said to improve notification management with “grouped notifications” in Android 16, although it is not yet clear how Samsung will integrate this feature if it chooses to adopt it.

Samsung is expected to release the stable version of One UI 7 between January and February next year. Based on the beta version, it is likely that this notification filtering feature will make it to the final version.
