Older employees more upgraded

This study, on a regional scale, shows that this situation of downgrading affects more workers and employees than other professional categories.

“More than 25% of workers or employees are professionally downgraded. » The employees of agricultural sector are most frequently exposed to this situation. THE employees under 30 years old are three times more affected than those of over 50 years old.

This marked difference can be explained by the higher average qualifications held by the youngest and recruitment for entry-level positions. Conversely, thanks to the promotion of their professional experience and promotions, older employees are significantly more often upgraded professionally: more than 40% of those over 50 are in a position to be upgraded compared to barely 25% of those under 50. 30 years old.

In the ranking of metropolitan areas least affected by professional downgrading, Normandie (23.3%) is in third place, behind Center-Val de (22.9%) and'Île-de- (23 %). The investigation details the situation by employment zone.

“Professional downgrading is more present in the west than in the east of the region. » The Channel is cut in two with rates higher than 23% in the south/southeast and lower in the north/northwest.

With one in four employees experiencing professional downgrading, the employment zones of Avranches, Granville and Saint-Lô are particularly affected by this situation. These are in fact territories where agriculture is proportionally more present, and the supply of managerial positions lower.

“For the Cherbourg-en-Cotentin employment zone, the lower professional downgrading rate (22.5%) is mainly explained by a higher share of executives than those observed in the other employment zones of the Manche, specifies Thomas Balcone, project manager at INSEE Normandy. For the Coutances zone, the lower rate (22.9%) is mainly due to a lower share of higher education graduates than those observed in the other employment zones of the department. »
