Thilogne, Dec 28 (APS) – Various cultural performances kicked off the 13th edition of the Thilogne International Culture and Development Festival (FESCULD), noted the APS.
“Interdependencies between food security, culture and local development: towards sustainable and inclusive strategies” is the theme of this cultural event, better known as “72 hours of Thilogne”.
The different communities living in the commune of Thilogne offered cultural services, in the presence of the mayor, Mamadou Elimane Kane, and the deputy governor of Matam, in charge of development, Tafsir Baba Anne.
Also present at the ceremony were the president of Thilogne development association (TAD) and several local authorities from the Matam region.
Dressed in traditional outfits, around fifteen women stood out by singing and clapping their hands during a procession called “thiaydé”. They sang songs in praise of historical figures.
“The theme reminds us of the vital importance of controlling our food security, our communities and preserving our cultural heritage, as well as our environment in a global context where the challenges linked to agriculture, climate change and food inequalities are increasingly pressing,” declared the deputy governor of Matam, in charge of development.
According to him, it is essential to think about sustainable and inclusive local solutions, allowing each individual to “feed with dignity and independently”.
This biennial includes concerts by local artists, a fair, exhibitions, a marathon, conferences and a sheep parade.
