Dakar, Dec 28 (APS) – The President of the National Assembly, Malick Ndiaye, recalled, Friday, “the historic responsibility” of the 15e legislature to ”overcome divisions, partisan debates and past practices to embody a national assembly truly at the service of the people”.
”We have the historical responsibility to overcome divisions and partisan debates and practices of the past to embody a national assembly truly at the service of the people,” said Malick Ndiaye.
He spoke at the close of the plenary session dedicated to the general policy declaration of the Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko.
”In this dynamic, we will be both a partner of the government by relaying the grievances of the populations, by actively contributing to the development of relevant laws and a watchdog, guardian of the general interest by fully exercising our prerogatives of control and evaluation of public policies,” explained the President of the National Assembly.
He believes that “each decision” of the institution “must reflect the legitimate aspirations” of the populations. ”We are elected by the people and it is to the people that we must be faithfully accountable,” he argued.
”By combining our efforts, government and parliament, with the principles of jub, jubal, jubunti, we can build a just, sovereign and prosperous Senegal by drawing inspiration from the values held by the illustrious President Mamadou Dia and others great figures of our history,” he said.
While working for African integration, ”we have the opportunity to chart a new trajectory that meets the legitimate expectations of the Senegalese people and the aspirations of our continent,” concluded the President of the National Assembly.
