“Belgium has always lacked the culture of victory!”

Thibaut Courtois was invited to the Globe Awards today. The Real Madrid goalkeeper also spoke about the Red Devils. He cited the elements that the team has lacked in recent years. He also spoke of a possible return.

“The coach with whom we have had the most success is Roberto Martínez. With him, we had a very good journey. But unfortunately it went wrong at the 2018 World Cup, in the semi-final against ,” Courtois said.

No winning mentality

“At this stage of the tournament it’s about taking the opportunities that present themselves. We didn’t do it in the 2016 European Championship either, when we lost to Wales. In Belgium, we have never really had this culture of winning, as is the case in big clubs such as Real Madrid. But this aspect is necessary to go far at the European Championships or World Cups,” Courtois said.

“For the same reason, it is not always easy to go and play for the national team. Because you come from a club that always wants to win, in an environment where this mentality is not always present. You don’t always feel like it’s possible to go further. In other words, we failed to seize our chance. This will forever remain a scar,” he added.

Return to the Red Devils

Strange statements, because with Vincent Kompany, Thomas Vermaelen, Jan Vertonghen, Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and many others, there were still many winners within the team. The goalkeeper also spoke of a possible return.

“I don’t want to say anything about it right now. I always loved playing for Belgium. It’s an honor. But things happened. We will see in the future what happens,” said the Belgian. But if it were to happen, it would be without Domenico Tedesco
