A new investigation opened in January into the stabbing attacks that occurred on September 4, 2022 in Saskatchewan. A first witness described the manhunt, then the car race which led to the arrest of the killer, Myles Sanderson.
The latter stabbed 11 people and injured 17 others in the James Smith Cree Nation and in the neighboring village of Weldon. This is the worst stabbing attack in Canadian history.

The truck driver behind the 2018 Humboldt Broncos crash, Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, will be deported from the country. The decision was made in May during an Immigration and Refugee Board hearing.
Families of the victims said they were relieved.
Mr. Sidhu’s lawyer, for his part, wanted to ask the government that his permanent residence be returned to him on humanitarian grounds due to the serious heart and lung problems his daughter suffers from.

The Saskatoon Police Service has launched an investigation after a student at Evan Hardy Secondary School in Saskatoon set a classmate on fire.
The 15-year-old girl doused her classmate with a liquid before setting her on fire, seriously injuring her.
The accused must appear in court again on January 6.

In August, the Macklin Village Fire Department in Saskatchewan was looking for an arsonist who was setting fire to hay bales in the area.
After the municipality set up a $21,500 reward, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced the arrest of a Macklin firefighter.
The 25-year-old man faces three charges and is due to appear in court in January 2025.

“It is with great sadness that I announce that the suspect was a member of our fire department,” wrote the municipality’s fire chief, Justin Bast, in a post on social networks.

A Saskatoon doctor who advised against an abortion for a patient for religious reasons has faced disciplinary charges from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan.
In December 2023, Dr. Terence Davids made comments that caused his patient anxiety and discomfort.
The doctor has since signed an agreement that he will no longer speak about religion or abortion.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Saskatchewan now administer a breathalyzer test to any motorist stopped, regardless of the reason.
The measure has been in place since April 1.

While conducting moisture tests in his field, Barry Sawchuk, a 66-year-old farmer, came across a giant piece of debris.
He was shocked to learn that this debris probably came from a spacecraft.
Jonathan McDowell, a Harvard astrophysicist, believes that this discovery is probably linked to the Dragon capsule of SpaceX which returned to earth in February with four passengers from the International Space Station.

An Ontario man no longer wants the box he won at auction containing Wayne Gretzky rookie cards.
Jack Arshawsky won this box for the price of 3.72 million US dollars.
The box was found in the basement of a Saskatchewan family’s home.

During a traffic stop near Shellbrook, west of Prince Albert, Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Saskatchewan discovered a motorist driving a vehicle without a steering wheel.
The driver had replaced the steering wheel with locking pliers, which he used to steer his car.
