The Department of Digital Transition, the Digital Development Agency (ADD) and the German cooperation program (GIZ) are launching a call for tenders to support 60 Moroccan SMEs in their digital transformation. This initiative is part of the “DigiTPME” project aimed at removing the main obstacles to digitalization.

Moroccan Very Small, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) benefit from a new initiative dedicated to their digital transformation. The Department of Digital Transition, the Digital Development Agency (ADD) and the German Cooperation Program in Morocco (GIZ) announce the launch of a call for tenders as part of the “DigiTPME” program. This provides for the selection and deployment of digital solutions adapted for 60 SMEs in order to support them in their digital transition.

According to the project promoters, digitalization has become a strategic lever for the economic and social development of Morocco. SMEs, which form the backbone of the Moroccan economy, are however still far from taking full advantage of the advantages offered by digital transformation, perceived by many as a burden rather than an investment for the future.

Cultural, technological and financial obstacles

The low adoption of digital solutions by SMEs is explained by several obstacles identified at three levels:

-Cultural: Many companies struggle to integrate the strategic importance of digitalization for their competitiveness. A negative perception of the risks associated with digital transformation, combined with a lack of understanding of their specific needs, hinders their engagement in this area.

-Technological: Companies face challenges linked to the complexity of digital tools, the lack of adapted training and the absence of local solutions meeting their specific needs, such as payment gateways or marketplaces adapted to the Moroccan context.

-Financial: The high cost of digital solutions constitutes a major obstacle, particularly for SMEs with limited resources. This obstacle is amplified by a lack of understanding of the commercial opportunities and the return on investment that digitalization could offer.

DigiTPME: a pilot phase in three regions

To address these challenges, the “DigiTPME” program initiated a pilot project in the regions of Fez-Meknes, Oriental and Marrakech-Safi. This targets 300 SMEs, with the aim of assessing the impact of support mechanisms on their level of digital maturity.

Among the proposed measures, support for the acquisition and deployment of software solutions is at the forefront. The program also provides tailor-made support to adapt digital tools to the specific needs of businesses.

An approach adapted to the needs of SMEs

Through this call for tenders, the Department of Digital Transition, ADD and GIZ aim to deploy sustainable and accessible digital solutions, with particular emphasis on the specificities of Moroccan SMEs. This project is part of a global approach aimed at making digitalization a real lever of growth for local businesses and, more broadly, for the national economy.
