Dakar, Dec 27 (APS) – The government of Senegal will soon launch a census program for Senegalese established abroad as part of the development of their potential through adapted programs, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko said on Friday.

“The government will launch a vast census program for Senegalese living abroad to better develop their potential through appropriate programs,” he said.

Delivering the government’s general policy declaration, the Prime Minister at the same time assured that an authority in charge of diaspora issues will be set up.

Ousmane Sonko assured that it will be a consultative body attached to the Prime Minister’s office whose role will be, among other things, to advise the government on issues affecting Senegalese abroad.

He announced that the most representative diaspora associations will be represented in this body.

“The government will appoint liaison magistrates to certain positions beyond the judicial mandate. The liaison magistrate will provide legal advice to compatriots while assisting them in legal proceedings,” he explained.

Before the deputies, the head of government also put forward the idea of ​​extending the validity period of passports from 5 to 10 years.
