The World Junior match between Canada and Latvia will be presented at 7:30 p.m. this evening on RDS and RDS.ca.
Following its 4-0 victory over Finland to open the World Juniors, Canada will take on Latvia this evening at the Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa.
Gavin McKenna, Easton Cowan, Matthew Schaefer and Luca Pinelli scored in the Canadian victory, while Carter George signed the shutout by stopping 31 shots.
For the Latvians, this will be their first match of the tournament. In their last meeting of the preparatory calendar on Monday, they lost 5-1 against Switzerland.
The Canadians and Latvians have not often crossed swords at the World Juniors, with only four meetings in the history of the tournament. The Canadians have unsurprisingly been dominant in these four matchups, scoring at least 10 goals in three of them.
The Latvian team brings together four 16-year-old players, all of whom are playing in North America this season. They are Olivers Murnieks (USHL), Rudolfs Berkalns (USHL), Martins Klaucans (NAHL) and Roberts Naudins (Shattuck-St. Mary’s).
At the end of this meeting against Latvia, the Canadian selection will take advantage of a day off on Saturday before facing Germany on Sunday.
More details to come.
